SPRAVATO® Treatment at wibeto
About SPRAVATO®
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression. See 'Diagnostic & Insurance Qualifications” to see you if may be a potential candidate.
SPRAVATO® works differently than traditional antidepressants. While most antidepressants work on serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine systems, SPRAVATO® targets the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, offering a new option for patients who haven't responded adequately to conventional treatments.
At Wibeto Practice in Chicago, we are proud to offer this innovative treatment option as part of our comprehensive approach to mental health care.

Diagnostic & Insurance Qualifications
Diagnostic Eligibility: patients who receive a diagnosis of depression, ‘mild to severe’ + ‘single episode or recurrent’, are eligible. There are other factors taken into consideration on clinical assessment if candidacy remains.
BCBS PPO Coverage Requirements:
Patients with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO insurance can qualify for SPRAVATO® treatment after documenting just one failed antidepressant trial. BCBS currently requires patients to be simultaneously taking at least one oral antidepressant alongside SPRAVATO® therapy, however, starting in mid-2025, BCBS is expected to update their policy to allow SPRAVATO® as a standalone treatment (monotherapy) for eligible patients, providing greater flexibility in treatment options.
Aetna PPO Coverage Requirements:
Patients with Aetna PPO insurance qualify for SPRAVATO® treatment after documenting two failed antidepressant medication trials. Unlike some other insurance providers, Aetna does not require concurrent use of an oral antidepressant during SPRAVATO® treatment. This means eligible patients can receive SPRAVATO® as a standalone therapy, which may be preferable for individuals who have experienced adverse effects from traditional antidepressants or prefer a single treatment approach.

KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPIST
I found myself drawn to Wibeto Practice at a time when I wanted to collaborate with other practitioners in a space that values integrity, equality, and serving the whole person - not just viewing people as a diagnosis.
When I work with clients, I use different therapeutic frameworks and a strengths-based approach to identify windows of opportunity to integrate one's inner healing intelligence with new therapeutic knowledge and skills in order to create new possibilities and pathways.
My early interest in holistic healing coupled with a trust in my intuition, led me to become a Reiki Practitioner while I was still in college and massage therapy shortly after. I have been drawn to other mind-body connection modalities like EMDR and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) which I incorporate in the appropriate setting.
Even after twenty years of practice, I am still amazed by the human capacity for self-healing. You are the expert on your life and the one who undertakes the healing journey. My goal is to help you find concrete ways to achieve wholeness. With the right care, attention, and tools, we naturally move towards holistic health.
I work with individuals, couples, ethically non-monogamous relationships, families, and at times will incorporate performance coaching + divorce mediation coaching.

ALL-AGE PSYCHIATRIST
Growing up, I became familiar with the medical model known to most of us in the USA. My grandpa was a cardiologist and I was in awe of my pediatrician who seemed to know so much about me based on a set of attuned questions and a thorough physical exam. Simply put, my desire to help others combined with an interest in science, I knew at a young age I wanted to be a doctor.
As life does, an array of experiences and influences opened my eyes beyond the standard medical framework. I sought new perspectives through travel, engaged in therapy and continued introspection, felt the power of community and surrender in healing circles, expanded by trauma framework through NARM training and conversations with inspirational therapists, partook in Mindfulness Based Stress-Reduction to further my intention of mindful living, and expanded my stillness practice through Transcendental Meditation. Through trial and error, I developed a dedicated personal practice that has evolved so much over time (currently, it is a mindful somatic experience connecting mind & body followed by energetic breathwork).
Through my own experiences visa vie the world, I have come to deeply understand that each person is on their own timeline, needing to experience their own pain and struggle, hopefully mixed with many corrective healing experiences.
I invite everyone to bring their full Self, emotions, personality, and we at wibeto will join you on your journey.

Ubuntu, an African word that roughly translates to "I am because we are" - ‘the belief that there is a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity’. This philosophy is one that I have held close to my heart, striving to treat others with compassion, dignity, and respect in all facets of my life. I am passionate about helping to cultivate a culture and space where others feel both safe and supported.

FAQs
Is SPRAVATO® regulated?
We administer SPRAVATO® under the guidelines established by the SPRAVATO® Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) protocol, which means we strictly adhere to the policies. We have each patient sign onboarding forms to ensure that we are on the same page in being able to give this prescribed treatments.
Can SPRAVATO® be taken in combination with any other depression medications??
In contrast to the use of many other psychedelics (which are not yet legalized), ketamine does not require you taper off your current psychiatric medications.
How many sessions of SPRAVATO® will I need?
Treatment is administered twice weekly for the first month, once weekly for the second month, and then once weekly or once every two weeks in subsequent months (adjusted based on your clinical response).
What are some of the side effects of taking SPRAVATO® ?
It does not have the side effect profile accustom to many of the current antidepressants ie. weight gain, emotional numbing, sexual side effects.
Much of the effects (relaxation, euphoric mood) during the treatment are a natural consequence of the medication, however, some people can experience varying degrees of nausea, drowsiness, and increased blood pressure. After the treatment: a mild disorientation, spaciness can remain.
A clinician is present to address any concerns that may arise, and blood pressure + oxygen are checked before/during/after treatment.
How soon can I drive after using SPRAVATO®?
SPRAVATO® may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. We require patients to have a ride to and from their appointment and to not engage in activities that require high alertness or motor coordination until the next day after a restful sleep.
I have so many more questions..
We understand this is an important decision.
Please see the SPRAVATO® website here for an extended list of questions.
Given the complexities of each clinic case, we believe is best to first establish care with one of our psychiatry providers to see if you are eligible and to address how this may play a role in your overall mental health and healing.
We can also have you set up a call with our experienced Clinic Manager Anila to go over general information - please text our office at 773.253.9002 and inquire about setting up a 15 minute call.
